Since its inception, the Learning by Doing project has aimed to transform complex research into accessible and engaging formats for a broad audience. Through the creation of illustrations, videos, and graphic novels, the project brings its discoveries and findings to life, making them easier to understand and more impactful.
A key element of this effort has been a series of SCRUMs designed to develop visions of the future—ranging from present-day realities to dystopian and utopian scenarios. Multidisciplinary teams from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, South Africa, Lebanon, and Latin America collaborated to imagine these futures, write accompanying texts, and support the illustrator in visually representing them.
Among these, the South African transport storylines stand out for their vivid depiction of both dystopian and utopian possibilities. The resulting illustrations and narratives were integrated into an interactive app, hosted on the project’s website. This app allows users to explore the different scenarios and gain insight into the processes through which Learning by Doing developed its conclusions.
The interactive app, available here, was officially launched during the project’s meeting in Santiago, Chile, organized in collaboration with ECLAC.
